CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Parex Resources Inc. (“Parex” or the “Company”) (TSX:PXT), a company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta and focused on Colombian oil exploration and production, provides an operational update, highlighted by the testing of the Capachos Block Andina-1 well in the Lower Guadalupe Formation.
Capachos (WI Parex 50%, Ecopetrol S.A 50%): As previously reported (please refer to the September 10, 2018 press release: “Parex Announces Capachos Andina Discovery”), Parex, as the operator drilled the Andina-1 exploration well to a total depth of 17,500 feet and encountered potential oil bearing reservoirs in the Une, Guadalupe and Mirador formations. The Une Formation had a final production rate during the test period of 2,545 barrels of oil per day (“bopd”) and 8.7 million cubic feet per day (“MMCFD”) of natural gas with a water-cut of 2%, prior to being shut-in for pressure build-up analysis.
Subsequently, Parex completed and tested the Lower Guadalupe Formation over an 88-hour period under natural flow conditions, recovering a total of 8,826 barrels of 35 API oil and 3.9 million cubic feet (“MMCF”) of natural gas (gas-oil-ratio of 442 scf/stb). The average production rate from the Lower Guadalupe Formation during the test was 2,407 bopd. Over the final 8 hours of the test, the rate was 2,570 bopd, 1.2 MMCFD of natural gas and a water-cut of 0.4% with subsurface pressure recorders indicating a producing drawdown of 30%. After completion of the build-up test, the Lower Guadalupe Formation will be produced from the existing perforations.
Based on the positive test results from the Andina-1 well, on October 8, 2018 Parex spud the Andina-2 appraisal well located approximately 400 meters from the Andina-1 well. The objective of this well is to delineate the Lower Guadalupe Formation and allow for testing of the Upper Guadalupe and Mirador formations encountered in the Andina-1 well.
Parex is in the process of commissioning a gas plant with capacity of 10 MMCFD to process liquid rich gas production from the Capachos operations into liquids and lean gas. The lean gas will be sold to a third party to generate power on site for sales into the local power grid. The gas plant will be used to process associated gas from multiple Capachos wells.
Production: Parex’ Q3 2018 average production is estimated at 45,020 barrels of oil equivalent per day (“boe/d”) compared to the Company’s Q3 2017 average quarterly production of 36,195 boe/d. We expect Q4 2018 production to average 48,000 boe/d which will generate a 2018 full year average of approximately 44,055 boe/d, an increase of 24% over the 2017 full year average of 35,541 boe/d.
Q3 2018 Quarter Results: Parex’ Q3 2018 quarterly results will be released after markets close on November 6, 2018; and the Company plans to hold its quarterly conference call on November 7 at 9:30am MT (11:30am ET).

Oil & Gas Matters Advisory
The term “Boe” means a barrel of oil equivalent on the basis of 6 Mcf of natural gas to 1 barrel of oil (“bbl”). Boe’s may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation. A boe conversion ratio of 6 Mcf: 1 bbl is based on an energy equivalency conversion method primarily applicable at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead. Given the value ratio based on the current price of crude oil as compared to natural gas is significantly different from the energy equivalency of 6:1, utilizing a conversion ratio at 6:1 may be misleading as an indication of value.
References in this press release to production test rates and initial flow rates are useful in confirming the presence of hydrocarbons, however such rates are not determinative of the rates at which such wells will commence production and decline thereafter and are not indicative of long term performance or of ultimate recovery. Additionally, such rates may also include recovered “load oil” fluids used in well completion stimulation. While encouraging, readers are cautioned not to place reliance on such rates in calculating the aggregate production for Parex. A pressure transient analysis or well-test interpretation has not been carried out in respect of all wells. Accordingly, the Company cautions that the test results should be considered preliminary.
