Bombardier Achieves International Asset Management Standard in South Australia

BERLIN, GERMANY–(Marketwired – Sept. 1, 2016) – Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has become the first rail manufacturer and maintainer in Australia to receive certification under Asset Management Accreditation Standard (ISO 55001). Risk management company SAI Global awarded the standard to Bombardier’s Adelaide Maintenance Facility in South Australia for the maintenance practices deployed across the Adelaide 3000 and 4000 Class electrical multiple unit (EMU) fleets. The Adelaide Maintenance Facility is also the first Bombardier site globally to achieve this status.

ISO 55001 is an internationally recognised standard within the asset management family which sets out the requirements and specifications for integrated and effective fleet management systems. Bombardier has been following the development of the Asset Management Accreditation Standard (ISO 55001) over the past two years, and was an active participant in the assessment and provisioning processes.

“The audit identified that the organisation has a very mature and comprehensive asset management [system]” said Geoff Tuazon from SAI Global upon awarding Bombardier’s certification. “It appears to meet the organisation’s strategic intent of providing maximum availability of the asset at minimum cost. This robust system has been a key enabler in providing the framework to deliver its vision.”

Bombardier has an impressive track record for sustaining and improving fleet performance, particularly across aging train fleets. Since taking over maintenance of Adelaide’s diesel electrical multiple unit (DEMU) fleet in 2005, Bombardier has increased reliability and availability of the trains; improving availability targets from an average of 91% in 2010 and 96% in 2015.

“This asset management practice has been implemented across all Bombardier’s projects in Australia, supporting fleets in Perth, Adelaide, Victoria and Queensland, as well as being exported to projects in Asia, such as our Shanghai Metro maintenance contract in China,” said Garry Bulgarelli, Head of Services at Bombardier Transportation, Australia and Asia Pacific Region. He added, “The improvements in fleet performance are testimony to the level of importance and commitment that Bombardier imbeds into its processes and customer service offerings globally.”

Bombardier provides a full suite of service solutions to keep train and tram fleets in top condition, ensuring that these assets yield value and reliable service for Government, customers, operators and passengers for many years.

Bombardier has been operating in Australia for more than 60 years. Today it has a workforce of more than 1,100 employees across 21 locations. It is a complete provider of rail vehicles, solutions and services and it is committed to the long term sustainability of the rail industry.
