Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation and the Austrian rail freight operator Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo have signed a contract for the delivery of three BOMBARDIER TRAXX AC3 Last Mile locomotives. The contract includes full maintenance and servicing for eight years. Furthermore it contains an option for three additional locomotives and the possibility to extend the maintenance contract for another 24 years.

“We are very pleased that we could win Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo as an additional customer for the TRAXX AC3 locomotives and that we now have already placed the second order for locomotives in Austria. With the agreement now concluded, Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo have chosen a solution that ensures maximum flexibility and reliability,” says Christian Diewald, Managing Director, Bombardier Transportation Austria GmbH.

Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo especially emphasize the advantages of the Last Mile functionality for more efficiency in operation. The Last Mile functionality enables the operator to shunt the locomotives on catenary-free lines (e.g. on feeder tracks) by using an additional diesel engine and battery. That saves an extra diesel locomotive for Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo. The new TRAXX locomotives will operate in Austria and Germany, starting 2017.

The locomotives are powered by BOMBARDIER MITRAC traction converters offering unmatched reliability. The sophisticated MITRAC control system offers safe and energy efficient traction power for sustainable mobility. MITRAC equipment drives more than 3,000 locomotives globally.
