BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ADT Inc. (NYSE: ADT), the leading provider of monitored security and interactive home and business automation solutions in the United States and Canada, celebrated a LifeSaver event today in Birmingham, Alabama where ADT customers Jonathan Samuels and Marcella Davis, along with their two children, survived a pre-dawn house fire.
“I heard the alarm and nudged Jonathan to investigate,” said Davis. “Our one-year-old son was sleeping with us, but our three-year-old daughter was next to the spare room where the fire started so I ran to get her out.”
The home’s security system sent alarm signals to Dispatcher Kinesha Liptrot at ADT’s Customer Care Center in Florida. She spoke with Davis, contacted 911 and then called Samuels to say help was coming.
“Another minute or two and it would have been too late,” said Samuels. “I tried to put out the fire, but the flames were too big and the smoke was everywhere.”
First Responders extinguished the blaze, which was caused by an electrical malfunction. The house was severely damaged and the family is now living with relatives until they can rebuild. During today’s festivities, featuring an emotional reunion with Liptrot, the family received gifts from ADT employees.
“In the spirit of the holidays, we wanted to show that ADT cares,” said Mike Picciola, ADT Vice President of Customer Care. “We are glad we were there when the family needed us the most and helped prevent a tragedy.”
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, there have been at least 2,029 fire fatalities in the U.S. since January. Winter months are peak times for home fires according to the National Fire Protection Association.
