CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwired – May 12, 2016) – On behalf of the 2,200 employees in Alberta, Brookfield Asset Management has committed $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal to support the Fort McMurray and surrounding community. Brookfield has received an outpouring of support across its office properties, residential, infrastructure and private equity groups in Canada and the United States to aid in disaster relief and rebuilding efforts for the community and residents in the area.
This unprecedented emergency resulted in the largest fire-related evacuation in provincial history, with more than 80,000 individuals displaced. As neighbours and friends of those without a home, our thoughts are with those impacted by the tragic events in the past week, as a community looks to rebuilding their lives in the coming months.
“As Fort McMurray copes with the destruction of the wildfires, we are committed to helping our northern neighbours through this devastating time. Brookfield has deep roots in the province and a dedication to building community where we operate. This tragedy has shown people around the world what it truly means to do that, through the immediate support, supplies and open doors to strangers in need,” said Alan Norris, Chief Executive Officer of Brookfield Residential and Managing Partner of Brookfield Asset Management.
“Since the first moment of this emergency, our employees have been setting up supply boxes, collecting donations and sending ideas on how we can help the people of Fort McMurray and the area. Brookfield’s team is here to help as we move through the next stage of this disaster and begin to rebuild a city,” says Norris.
