Canadian Bureau for International Education Launches ‘Home for the Holidays’

OTTAWA, ON–(Marketwired – September 01, 2016) – In celebration of its 50th year, the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is pleased to launch Home for the Holidays, a competition sponsored by Scotiabank that will award one international student the chance to go home over the holiday season by covering the cost of a roundtrip ticket to the student’s home country.

“Canadian schools do a wonderful job making international students feel welcome in their new Canadian environments. That being said, it is only natural that students would like to be around friends and family during the holiday season,” said Karen McBride, President and CEO of CBIE. “Our Home for the Holidays competition is one way that we can extend a hand and make a difference to one student. While this is the first year for this initiative, our hope is that we can evolve this over time to reach more international students.”

CBIE is the national voice advancing Canadian international education by creating and mobilizing expertise, knowledge, opportunity and leadership. CBIE is a unique organization in Canada spanning the spectrum of Canadian education, from K-12 to postgraduate, public and private sectors.

“Scotiabank supports international students through its specially developed Scotiabank Student GIC Program and the StartRight Program for Newcomers to Canada. As an extension of these efforts, Scotiabank is proud to support CBIE in this novel venture to invite students to share their experience and win a trip back home,” said Puneet Mann, Director, Multicultural Banking and Branch Customer Experience at Scotiabank.

To participate, students are required to submit to CBIE a 30-second video explaining what it would mean to them, to be able to go home for the holidays.

The winning student’s video will be incorporated into a promotional video that will be shared on CBIE’s and Scotiabank’s websites, social media channels, and at CBIE’s Annual Conference in Ottawa this November.

A complete set of rules and regulations is available on the CBIE website at www.cbieholidays.ca. The competition is sponsored by Scotiabank and is open until September 30, 2016 at 11:59 (EST).
