Hitachi Content Platform Named a Leader in IDC MarketScape on Object Storage Once Again

SANTA CLARA, CA–(Marketwired – December 15, 2016) – Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced that Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) has been placed by International Data Corporation (IDC) in the Leaders category of the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Object-based Storage 2016 Vendor Assessment (doc #US41918416, December 2016).

IDC analysts evaluated 12 of the most notable object-based storage vendors based on a comprehensive framework and a set of parameters that gauge the success of a supplier in delivering an object-based storage solution in the market.

The report states, “Today, the HCP solution gets to the heart of what many customers are looking to accomplish in the areas of hybrid cloud and workforce mobility while retaining visibility and control over their digital assets.”

“HDS’s HCP portfolio, along with its growing ecosystem of technology partners, is in a unique position in the object-based storage market. With an installed base of over 1,700 customers and focus on emerging markets such as internet of things (IoT), web 2.0 and analytics, HDS’s HCP is on the path for continued success in this space,” said Amita Potnis, research manager, file- and object-based storage systems at IDC. “Through the latest initiative around digital transformation, HDS is positioning the HCP portfolio as a futureproof technology that can sustain data growth and scale performance and capacity at affordable costs for the workloads of today and tomorrow.”

According to the IDC MarketScape, “HDS’s strength lies in the ecosystem of products that the company has created around the HCP offering with HCP Anywhere and Hitachi Data Ingestor. HDS’s continued development efforts have resulted in not only an ecosystem of products but also configurations and data tiering options. The freedom to mix and match software-only or hardware-based access nodes (G-nodes) and economical storage nodes (S-nodes) as well as tiering to public cloud is a tremendous opportunity for end-user customization based upon their requirements. Acquisitions such as Pentaho, business analytics software, will help HDS target emerging markets such as internet of things (IoT), analytics, and Social Innovation solutions.”

“Hitachi Content Platform software is a catalyst for digital transformation because it is more than just a simple object store. It’s an integrated portfolio of object, cloud file gateways and end user collaboration that enables organizations to gain control of data and extract business value at scale. It also addresses concerns around compliance and governance, creating private, public and hybrid clouds, and supporting IoT, web 2.0 and big data analytics projects,” said Peter Sjoberg, chief technology officer, cloud and mobility for Hitachi Data Systems.
