NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwired – Sep 6, 2016) – Energy Impact Partners (EIP) today announced that Kevin C. Fitzgerald has joined the investment firm as Chief Utility Officer. In this role, Mr. Fitzgerald will facilitate the experience sharing between EIP’s network of partner utilities, as well as help adapt the products and services within EIP’s growing portfolio to the needs of the grid.
Mr. Fitzgerald has more than two decades of legal and management experience in the utility and energy industries. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), assisting in the company’s turnaround and playing a lead role in its merger with Exelon (EXC). He also led in the development and execution of PHI’s vision and blueprint of the Utility of the Future, for which he was recognized by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) with its inaugural Technology Leadership award. Mr. Fitzgerald currently chairs the Technology Committee of the Institute for Electric Innovation at EEI.
Prior to his time at PHI, he served as a member of the Executive Committee and as firm-wide Executive Partner for the international law firm Troutman Sanders LLP. While at Troutman Sanders, Mr. Fitzgerald led some of the most transformational developments in the industry, including assisting in the creation of the first retail load aggregator in the country, New Energy Ventures (NEV); the first independent transmission company (ITC); the first multi-state gas utility holding company to be taken private (Semco Energy); and the U.S. Partnership for Renewable Energy Finance. He received his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Law degrees from the George Washington University.
“EIP is sharply focused on helping our partners and portfolio companies with information, advice and experience sharing to take on the challenges ahead,” said Hans Kobler, CEO and Managing Partner at EIP. “Kevin’s history of creating value for investors, customers and utility companies in times of change is unmatched in this space. At key points in the evolution of the industry, Kevin has creatively structured and executed on complex business, legal and regulatory matters. His work on the Utility of the Future and his understanding of the industry, technology innovation, and regulatory environment will be invaluable assets as we grow our network. We are honored to have Kevin on our team.”
“Utilities will see tremendous changes over the next decade, and the model that EIP offers is vital to the industry’s growth and evolution,” commented Mr. Fitzgerald. “The process that Hans and his team implemented at GE is well suited to assisting investors, utility management and technology companies with the development of the next-generation electric grid. I’m excited to be a part of this team and very optimistic about the opportunities in front of us.”
EIP recently announced investments in AutoGrid and Sense Technologies, and will soon be announcing additional global utilities joining its coalition.
