LogistiCare Sets New Food Donation Record During Ninth Annual Food Drive

Non-emergency medical transportation broker provides more than 52,000 items to those in need

ATLANTA, Dec. 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — LogistiCare, the nation’s largest non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) broker, today announced it secured and donated a record-setting amount of food during its ninth Annual Food Drive. In total, the company donated more than 52,000 items, surpassing its previous record of 42,000 food products collected and distributed in 2017.

The food drive is a testament to LogistiCare’s mission of giving to those in need across the country. Food donations are provided to local churches, rescue missions, soup kitchens, and shelters for women and the homeless.

“This year, we are thrilled to receive close to 400 pounds of food from LogistiCare,” said Tricia Passuth, director of community ministries at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. “Our organization serves a very vulnerable population in the community, and with a donation of this size, we are able to feed 20 families. The continued support of LogistiCare is valued and appreciated during this season of giving.”

In the past five years, employees of the Atlanta-based company have donated more than 179,000 food items at 22 operations centers across the country. For the second year in a row, the company’s team in Norton, Virginia led the way, collecting more than 12,000 items. They were followed by the Philadelphia and Michigan operations centers.

Additional locations, such as the Maine operations office, opted to collect other necessary items, including winter coats for homeless veterans.

“Last year we donated a record amount of food and I couldn’t be more pleased to have surpassed that this year,” said LogistiCare CEO Jeff Felton. “Our dedicated team understands the importance of combatting hunger and helping the frail and underserved. I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the LogistiCare team and I hope we’re talking about another new record next year.”

Since its inception in 1986, LogistiCare has been dedicated to supporting the needs of the communities it serves from its annual food drives to its pledge to goBeyondProfit to its sponsorship of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). Each year, company employees commit to complete fundraising walks in more than 20 cities across the country to raise money in support of the foundation’s mission of preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease, and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation. To date, LogistiCare staff members have raised more than $500,000 for the NKF.
