ST. JOHN’S, Nov. 24, 2015 /CNW/ – In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) is hosting an important seminar to help protect seniors in St. John’s against fraud and identity theft.

Attending seniors will learn if they have been safeguarding their personal information properly and what steps can be taken to protect themselves against fraudsters.

“Seniors are often targets because many have generous natures, are at home more often, some may be isolated, and there are those that may be less technology-savvy than they’d like to be,” explains Cairine Wilson, vice-president, corporate citizenship, with CPA Canada.  

The special session is part of CPA Canada’s community outreach initiative – an extensive grassroots effort involving 11,000 CPA Canada members who are giving back to their communities.

Jane Rooney, Canada’s financial literacy leader will be a keynote speaker at a special seminar and Larry Short, a local wealth management expert and CPA, will be the session’s presenter.
