Sandvine’s Record Generator being integrated into operator’s Big Data strategy
WATERLOO, ON, Dec. 2, 2015 /CNW/ – Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that it has received expansion orders totaling $12 million from a major cable operator customer in North America. The orders largely relate to ongoing deployment of Sandvine’s market-leading Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) 32000 to enable business intelligence and traffic optimization use cases. Sandvine previously announced orders for the PTS 32000 from this operator in November and December 2014.
“Cable operators have always been leaders in creating high-performance networks. The PTS 32000 helps our customers continue to be leaders as Internet access makes the inevitable, industry-wide migration to 100 gigabit per second Ethernet,” said Tom Donnelly, COO, Sales and Global Services.
In its 2 rack unit (RU) form factor, the PTS 32000 delivers PCEF/TDF functionality for both mobile and fixed operators at the highest scale, with the best performance density (Gbps/RU) and performance efficiency (Mbps/watt) of any 100GE network policy control device.
With these orders, Sandvine’s Record Generator is now part of the operator’s Big Data business intelligence strategy. The operator will be able to cross-join key data about Internet usage with data from other business lines, like cable TV, to get better overall insight into subscribers and network activity for an improved subscriber experience. Record Generator will integrate with Hadoop for this initiative.

They now see how those insights can be shared more globally throughout the organization with Record Generator feeding its Big Data platform,” added Donnelly. “Data is less valuable in silos and Record Generator breaks down those silos by sharing actionable data on the Internet access network with other business systems.”
These orders further highlight Sandvine’s network policy control leadership in the tier-1 North American cable market, where Sandvine has active deployments at five of the six largest operators, by subscriber count. The orders were all received in Sandvine’s fourth quarter and the company estimates that approximately $1 million will be recognizable as revenue within the quarter, with the remainder to be recognized throughout fiscal 2016.
