OTTAWA, ON–(Marketwired – July 18, 2016) – The Canadian AIDS Society announced today the #TiedTogether campaign in anticipation of the annual 2016 Scotiabank AIDS Walk. Sponsored nationally by Scotiabank, the AIDS Walk is a grassroots labour of love that will take place in 29 communities across Canada between September 9 and September 25, 2016.
The #TiedTogether theme, created by Toronto’s agency Naked Creative Consultancy, aims to use the concept of red shoelaces in various configurations to reinforce the powerful idea of unity and togetherness as a way to combat both the spread of HIV and the stigma that often accompanies it. Participants in the Scotiabank AIDS Walk will be able to demonstrate their solidarity with the over 75,500 HIV positive people in Canada and raise funds for local services that will directly benefit people living with or affected by HIV.
“We are particularly enthusiastic about this year’s campaign,” said Gary Lacasse, Executive Director of the Canadian AIDS Society. “It has been designed to encourage communities across the country to get involved and work towards the communal objective of removing the stigma that is all too often associated with being HIV positive.”
The 2016 Scotiabank AIDS Walk marks the 21st annual event in Canada which has raised more than $42 million dollars for the cause over the years. Last year’s events raised over $700,000 and benefited more than 31 community-based organizations in 27 walk sites across the country.
“We are proud to once again support the Scotiabank Aids Walk in 29 locations across Canada,” said Janet Slasor, Director, Donations and Sponsorships at Scotiabank. “Our employees are passionate about giving back to the communities where they live and work and this walk is one that they rally behind and support.”
Each year, the Scotiabank AIDS Walk is made possible with the support of its committed volunteers, countless donors and national corporate sponsors.
