Scotiabank Puts GM and SCENE Strategic Partnerships to Work for Customers — Two Co-Branded Credit Cards Take Top Billing in 2016 MoneySense Annual Credit Card Rankings

TORONTO, ON–(Marketwired – August 25, 2016) – Two popular co-brand credit cards from Scotiabank were recognized with highest honours today in the 2016 MoneySense Annual Credit Cards Ranking. The Scotiabank GM Visa Infinite card ranked #1 in Best Retail Rewards Category and Scotiabank SCENE Visa card ranked #1 in Student Rewards Category.

“We are relentless in our commitment to provide our customers with some of the richest rewards in the Canadian marketplace today, and to help Canadians put their everyday spending to work for them,” said Jennifer Douglas, Senior Vice President, Credit Cards at Scotiabank. “Our agreements with strategic partners like GM, SCENE and Cineplex Entertainment as well as newer partnerships like the one we recently announced with the Overwaitea Food Group, have helped us to create strong rewards platforms that offer value-driven, easy to earn and redeem rewards for customers in the category that best meets their needs. Scotiabank is proud to have been recognized by MoneySense Magazine in the 2016 Annual Credit Card Rankings.”

The Scotiabank GM Visa Infinite card launched in September 2015. This card, which enables customers to earn 5% GM Earnings rewards on the first $10,000 in net annual purchases, along with many other card features, is one of the richest rewards cards in the Canadian marketplace today.

“We designed the Scotiabank GM Rewards program to reward what matters most to our customers,” said Hossein Hassani, Director, Enterprise Marketing, at General Motors Canada. “Through the GM Rewards program, our customers enjoy one of the best earn rates, an easy redemption process, and the best reward of any credit card on the market for our customers — a brand new vehicle.”

The Scotiabank SCENE Visa card offers customers the simplest and fastest way to earn points for free movies at Cineplex Entertainment theatres and more. Launched by Scotiabank and Cineplex in 2007 as Canada’s first and only entertainment rewards program, SCENE now boasts almost 8 million members.

“We are proud to be one of the most recognized loyalty programs in the Canadian market and we are so pleased to see the Scotiabank SCENE Visa card being recognized for the great value it brings to students,” said Matthew Seagrim, Managing Director of SCENE. “The card has long been one of the fastest ways to earn free movies at Cineplex, and now SCENE members can also earn and redeem SCENE points at Sport Chek and CARA Foods restaurants from coast to coast, bringing even more value to our members.”

The MoneySense magazine 6th annual ranking of Canada’s Best Credit Cards evaluates available cards on the basis of net five-year rewards in all key credit card categories, based on publicly available data.

Overall, Scotiabank was recognized as one of the top two credit cards in all of the following categories:

  • Business Travel: ScotiaGold Passport for Business
  • Cash back: Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite
  • Retail Rewards: Scotiabank GM Infinite Visa & Scotiabank GM Visa
