SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwired – December 06, 2016) – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit advancing professional open source management for mass collaboration, today announced its 2017 events schedule. Linux Foundation events are where the creators, maintainers and practitioners of the world’s most important open source projects meet. Linux Foundation events in 2016 attracted over 20,000 developers, maintainers, sysadmins, thought leaders, business executives and other industry professionals from more than 4,000 organizations across 85 countries.
The Linux Foundation’s 2017 events will gather 25,000 or more open source influencers to learn about new trends in open source and share knowledge of best practices across projects dealing with operating systems, cloud applications, containers, IoT, networking, data processing, security, storage and more. There are also events looking at the business side of open source, gathering business and technical leaders in compliance, governance, legal topics and related areas.
“Linux Foundation events bring together the top professionals from all areas of open source to collaborate and advance the greatest shared technology projects in history,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation. “Our events are unique in that all proceeds are channeled directly back into the technical communities that these gathering support, driving future collaboration.”
The Linux Foundation’s very first event, Collaboration Summit, evolves in 2017 into Open Source Leadership Summit, an invitation-only think tank for open source software and collaborative development thought leaders to convene, share best practices and learn how to manage the largest shared technology investments of our time.
New Linux Foundation events in 2017 include the expansion of LinuxCon + ContainerCon + CloudOpen to China, where attendees can expect to collaborate, share information and learn about the newest and most interesting open source technologies, including Linux, containers, cloud technologies, networking, microservices and more; in addition to gaining insight into how to navigate and lead in the open source community. CloudNativeCon + KubeCon also expands to Europe in March, gathering all Cloud Native Computing Foundation projects under one roof.
LinuxCon + ContainerCon + CloudOpen in Japan, North America and Europe have combined into a new umbrella event, Open Source Summit. Each subset of The Linux Foundation Open Source Summit brings part of the open source community to the table, providing a holistic overview of the entire open source ecosystem. The Linux Foundation Open Source Summit in North America and Europe will also contain a brand new event, Community Leadership Conference. Attendees will have access to sessions across all events in a single venue, enabling them to collaborate and share information across a wide range of open source topics and areas of technology.
