OAKVILLE, ON, Dec. 22, 2015 /CNW/ – With Santa Claus and his reindeer prepping to take flight in a few days, The Weather Network’s meteorologists have checked their weather trackers twice to see where Canadians can expect a white Christmas.
The Weather Network’s Ho! Ho! Snow Report indicates that approximately half of Canadians will see a white Christmas (snow cover of two centimetres or more on Christmas morning at 7:00 a.m.), while above seasonal conditions will contribute to a green Christmas for others. With many parts of Southern Canada currently without snow and experiencing mild temperatures, it will take a Christmas miracle for everyone to see snow on the ground come Christmas morning.
“Canadians can expect a tale of two Christmases this year, as you can divide the population pretty much in half in terms of whether or not they’re going to see a white Christmas,” said Chris Scott, Chief Meteorologist at The Weather Network. “While the vast majority of Southern Ontario, Southern Quebec and Atlantic Canada will see a green Christmas, there will be varying amounts of snow cover as you move west from Lake Superior across the Prairies. Most of British Columbia, with the exception of the lowest elevations along the South Coast, will also see a white Christmas.”
Warmth will be the big story leading up to Christmas across Central and Eastern Canada as parts of Southern Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes will likely see record high temperatures on the 23rd and 24th. On the flip side, the west coast will be chillier than normal, and there is even a chance for some snowflakes in the air for Vancouver on Christmas Eve.
While some may be disappointed not to have a white Christmas, for those travelling to visit friends and relatives on Christmas Day, favourable weather conditions are expected across the country.
