MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO–(Marketwired – July 15, 2016) – After five weeks of open submissions and over 70 entries from across Canada, three finalists have been selected for the chance to win $50,000 through the goeasy Community Project. goeasy Ltd. (TSX:GSY), (“goeasy” or the “Company“), the leading full-service provider of goods and alternative financial services that improve the lives of everyday Canadians, designed the goeasy Community Project to support those looking to create change in their own backyards by nominating local projects for the chance to win $50,000 towards their project. The submissions received ranged from helping communities build new parks through to animal shelters and building new kitchens to help feed the homeless.
“We were overwhelmed by the number of submissions we received and the response to this project has been more than we ever imagined,” said Andrea Fiederer, EVP and CMO at goeasy. “The time and effort that was put into each one shows an incredible amount of community pride right across Canada and made choosing only three finalists for the voting stage extremely challenging.”
The top three finalists represent a diverse set of Canadian communities and unique needs within those communities. The projects that were selected include:
- A baseball diamond for the Challenger Baseball program in Peterborough, Ontario that provides the opportunity for special needs children and youth to participate in the game of baseball.
- A new kitchen to be built in a facility that is currently used to serve meals to over 4,500 people a month in Riverview, New Brunswick.
- A new garden in Hamilton, Ontario for the RYGIEL Supports for Community Living organization that supports people who have developmental disabilities and other handicapping conditions.
“Canadians can go to www.goeasy.com/communityproject to vote for the project that they think is most deserving of the $50,000,” said Fiederer. “Even if your community is not in the top three, we want you to have a say and be able to impact one of these deserving communities by participating in the voting process.”
The final winner will be announced on August 3, 2016. goeasy plans to document the process as the winning community builds their project and reveal the outcome with a final video being produced and promoted nationally in October.
