Verimatrix and Trustonic Expand Partnership to Enable Choice and Security in Video Service Delivery Across Connected Devices

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS–(Marketwired – Aug 31, 2016) – IBC 2016 (Booth #5.A59) — Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today announced that it has extended its long-standing partnership with Trustonic, the leading provider of Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology, to license its Trusted Application Management (TAM) technology. The TAM technology enhances the security options provided by the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™) for Internet TV, ensuring that operators can maintain choice and maintain control of integrity in the solutions they use to protect premium over-the-top (OTT) video content.

“The Trustonic TAM uniquely enables Verimatrix to build a robust infrastructure for over-the-air provisioning of Trusted Applications, giving operators the option to use Verimatrix’s digital rights management (DRM) technology within the TEEs of the connected devices of their choosing,” said Ben Cade, CEO at Trustonic. “Today, Trustonic TEE technology protects 700 million smart, connected devices, opening the door for VCAS for Internet TV to secure more connected devices than ever before possible.”

With consumer demand on the rise for premium service delivery across a wider range of devices, operators are looking for cost effective yet robust protection mechanisms for protecting premium content services. Some device retailers pre-integrate DRM solutions with TEE support at the time of manufacturing, but this eliminates any choice of technology that the operator may want to make and leaves the maintenance of that DRM integration at the mercy of infrequent device firmware updates.

The Verimatrix TAM serves as a mechanism through which operators can download the Verimatrix ViewRight® Web Trusted Application to implement VCAS for Internet TV security as a part of their branded application. Operating independently from device manufacturers, the TAM enables Verimatrix to be flexible and responsive in its approach to DRM without having to wait for software updates to release improvements or provide countermeasures in response to emerging threats.

“The issue with pre-integrated connected devices is that they are not customizable for the operator, leaving them unable to select their preferred DRM solution. If there is a breach in security, they have to wait for a new version of the software from the manufacturer before it can get resolved,” said Verimatrix CTO Petr Peterka. “Conversely, having our own TAM uniquely equips Verimatrix with the flexibility needed to respond to operator needs for DRM at any point in time. It is the ultimate downloadable security for Trusted Applications on connected devices.”

Verimatrix provides 24/7 cloud-based support for the TAM service via the Verspective™ Intelligence Center. Through the globally interconnected infrastructure, pay-TV operators can download a wide variety of Trusted Applications onto the TEE of essentially any connected device. This has the potential to extend far beyond OTT video delivery, into areas such as banking, e-commerce and even the Internet of Things (IoT) space.

Verimatrix executives will be available to further discuss the TAM service and Verimatrix’s partnership with Trustonic at IBC 2016. Visit booth #5.A59 or book an appointment at www.verimatrix.com/ibc2016.
