VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Marketwired – Dec. 6, 2017) – TELUS (TSX:T)(NYSE:TU) has launched a new, enhanced app for Optik TV that makes it easier to watch your favourite shows and events – any time, on any device. The new integrated app enables subscribers to watch live TV, access thousands of On Demand titles, and provides the ability to set and manage recordings, all from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
The Optik TV app makes it easy to discover, watch and record content from anywhere, combining the features of the previous Optik apps into one seamless experience. Subscribers can browse trending TV, choose from popular On Demand titles (including Rotten Tomatoes® scores) or discover new and exciting content with the improved interface and search engine. With improved accessibility features including closed captioning and described video, more Optik TV subscribers than ever before can enjoy all the app has to offer.
Optik TV subscribers never have to miss a second of the action when they’re not at home, whether it’s watching live TV or using the app to set recordings. Using the Optik TV app, users can access up to 185 channels in home and 155 on-the-go, which is the most live TV channels available on mobile devices in Western Canada. The app even allows users to order a movie on their TV and pick up right where they left off on their mobile device, making it as effortless to watch Optik TV from anywhere as it is to watch at home.
“We’re constantly evolving Optik TV to provide our customers with enhanced viewing options that suit their lifestyle and put them in control of when, where and how they want to enjoy their favourite content,” said Blair Miller, Vice-President, Products & Content at TELUS. “Whether streaming the game on your smartphone, finding a new binge-worthy series or setting a recording while you are out so you don’t miss your favourite show, the new Optik TV mobile app is another way we’re making it easier for our customers to enjoy Canada’s best entertainment experience.”
The Optik TV app is yet another example of TELUS’ continuous commitment to entertainment innovation. In 2016, TELUS was the first, and is currently the only, carrier in Western Canada to offer 4K programming, which now extends to Netflix and YouTube 4K content on Optik TV. TELUS also provides the largest PVR capacity, with the ability to record up to 400 hours of HD content or 100 hours in stunning 4K, has the most HD channels in Western Canada, and is also the only TV provider in Canada to offer wireless set-top boxes and seamless YouTube integration.
The Optik TV app is currently available in B.C., Alberta and Quebec in English and French for Apple (iOS 10.0 and later) and Android (5.0 and later) smartphones and tablets, or within a web browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and Safari).
