OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Feb. 01, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — YRC Freight professional city driver Byron Bramwell has logged his 3-millionth consecutive mile without a single preventable accident. This is an impressive number of accident-free miles on any given set of roads but reaching this milestone as a city driver requires unwavering attention and true commitment to safety when navigating busy narrow side streets and dockyards.
Driving three-million-miles is the equivalent of making SIX round trips to the moon or circumnavigating the globe at the equator over 116 times–and all without having a single accident.
“Byron is a true safety champion. We thank him and are proud of his commitment to quality, unparalleled customer service and unmatched enthusiasm for the trucking profession. We congratulate him for his continued dedication to keeping our highways safe,” states YRC Freight President T. J. O’Connor.
Bramwell, based in Kansas City, Missouri, has been a professional truck driver for over 40 years and has been with YRC Freight his entire career. He actively trains and mentors young drivers. An America’s Road Team Captain (2013-2014) for the American Trucking Association, Bramwell is no stranger to spreading the word about safety. He shares safe driving tips, provides safety demonstrations, speaks to high school students and offers motorists advice on how to safely “Share the Road” with trucks, as well as speaking on behalf of the American Trucking Association to news media and the public as a safety advocate.
Road Team Captain Bramwell says, “We never know if we can stop someone from having an accident, but we sure like to think that the education they are given will help them make good decisions driving in the future.”
He has participated in 30 consecutive state truck driving championships; competed at the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) in 2000, 2010, 2011; worked as a Road Team Captain at NTDC five times; was honored with the 2016 Missouri Trucking Association’s Professional Excellence Award; presented with the 2015 Missouri Driver of the Month award and the 2010 Missouri Grand Champion award; in addition to serving as a member of the Kansas Road Team (2000-2002).
YRC Freight is celebrating Byron Bramwell’s 3-million-mile safety accomplishment at the Kansas City service center on February 1, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. The celebration will include a YRC Freight 3-million-miler celebratory cake. He will be presented with a commemorative 3-million-miler crystal tractor, a plaque, and a personalized tractor decal. Coworkers, family members and YRC Freight management will be in attendance to honor his achievement.
Byron Bramwell lives in Centerview, Missouri. He has three children and six grandchildren. His two sons are also professional drivers and have learned a thing or two from their dad about safe driving. They have both won at state competition and participated at the National Truck Driving Championships.
